Giorgi Eristavi as one of the greatest public figures and the first Georgian playwright in comedy genre, with his dramaturgy started critical realism in Georgian literature. He was the first to turn a blind eye to reality with his plays, called the outdated by its real name and reflected it in realistic characters. With his play “The Miser” he showed in the light of day the backwardness and idleness of high society. He created the lively examples of nobles being on the verge of degradation. Through the cues of the characters the author makes clear where we should search for the reasons of their misery.
